CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REPRESENTATION AT WEMBLEY EXHIBITION.
The Executive Council proposes to have inquiries made as to how far the trade and industry of the country would be prepared to support, in a practical way, participation in this Exhibition next year. ...
I realise some of the things the Deputy stated, but I also realise that the decision has not yet officially been taken and announced to continue the Wembley Exhibition next year.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUBLIN COMPENSATION CLAIM.
The application of Mrs. Mary White in respect of the death of her son was fully investigated by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee who came to the conclusion that there was no dependency o...
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WEXFORD COMPENSATION CLAIM.
As a result of enquiry at the offices of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission it has been ascertained that no such award as that referred to by the Deputy has in fact been made.
The Deputy will realise the difficulty of tracing an award which was never made.
The answer shows that no evidence has been submitted to the Minister for Finance to back up what the Deputy is saying.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISTRICT COURT REGISTRARS.
I am not prepared to state any date nor to commit myself to any implied undertaking that all these officers will become established pensionable officers. The whole Court Officers' system is at presen...
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WRITS FOR RENT IN KILKENNY AND WEXFORD.
With regard to (a) and (b): to what period does the Deputy refer? I cannot ask my officials for figures as to the number of decrees issued or decrees executed without reference to some dates or perio...
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BOYLE CIVIL BILL OFFICER.
Civil Bill Officers were formerly dismissed, when necessary, by the County Court Judge, and pending legislation on the subject of Court Officers generally, the law appears to be and the practice certa...
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUBLIN CITY JURY WORK.
I hope to introduce a Bill on this subject very shortly, one of the effects of which, if enacted. will be to extend the area as suggested.
I am informed that there is a considerable amount of exaggeration with regard to Dublin City jurors. I understand that a Dublin juror does not serve more than once in two years, and, consequently, th...
I would not be surprised at anything that the Deputy states: he knows that I would be very much disinclined to believe that was an accurate statement.
CLOSE OF SESSION.
I find myself in a difficult position. As Deputies are aware, the President has departed from the country, and the Vice-President is detained at home to-day owing to illness in the family. If Deputy...
UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE (No. 2) BILL, 1924.—FIRST STAGE.
I ask leave to introduce the Unemployment Insurance (No. 2) Bill, 1924, which is “A Bill to amend the Unemployment Insurance Acts, 1920-24, and for purposes connected therewith.” The object of the Bi...
I propose, with the leave of the Dáil, to have the Second Reading of this Bill on Thursday, and, as it is a matter of urgency, to ask the indulgence of the House to get the Bill through with all possi...
I did not see a statement phrased exactly as the Deputy put it. I saw a statement to the effect that the Minister for Industry and Commerce in the Free State was living in splendid isolation in regar...
No. The case of seamen is different altogether. I was addressing myself to the point of Deputy Johnson's complaint about ex-National Army men.
I think that may be the effect of his statement, but the question with regard to what Deputy Byrne asked is a wholly different thing. While there have been certain conversations and conferences betwe...
It would be very difficult to have them distributed to-night. It will be in time for the purpose of the Second Reading on Thursday, as I would like to have the Committee Stage on Friday. Having that ...
RAILWAYS (DIRECTORATE) BILL, 1924—FIRST STAGE.
I ask leave to introduce this Bill, the object of which is “to confer the right to nominate a Director of the Amalgamated Company, to be constituted under the Railways Act, 1924, on the London Midland...
If desired, I can give a certain short explanation at the moment, but I do not want to preclude myself from giving a more detailed expalnation later on. It comes to this: that the London, Midland and...
What I have done is to put before the Dáil what I consider was sufficient matter to ask them to agree to the introduction of a Bill which, if passed, would give that right, but so far from giving the...
Before any other Deputy intervenes, I would like to make it quite clear that what we are discussing now is a motion moved by me asking for leave to introduce this Bill. Deputy Johnson, in arguing aga...
I understood the Deputy to say that it would require a great deal of argument to justify that position. I am sorry if I misunderstood the Deputy. I desire to point out to the Dáil that arguments wil...
If £20,000 is not a sufficient reason then I do not see anything further to urge.
On the Second Reading of the Railway Bill the question was raised as to the right of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway to have a Director on the new Board of the Amalgamated Company. I say tha...
I may have a lot of palatable and unpalatable things to swallow, but if I have, I expect that they shall be served up correctly to me. On the Committee Stage of the Railways Bill, I did not say anythi...
It has nothing to do with this.
I am almost obstructed from speaking by trying to swallow the words which Deputy Davin twice tried to force on me. I have nothing that I said previously to swallow. Deputy Davin referred—and referred...
There may be nothing to prevent that, but such an appointment would not carry with it and would not secure the £20,000.
If the Deputy is making that as an offer, I will give it very careful consideration. If the money is well guaranteed and well secured, the Dáil might be induced to give such an offer favourable consi...
That is the point in dispute, but I think the statement I made is sufficient justification for asking leave to introduce this Bill. That is all I ask at the moment. Question put—“That leave be given ...
DAIL IN COMMITTEE.
On behalf of the Minister for Finance I beg to move amendment 11:— In page 7, before Section 15, to insert a new section as follows:— (1) The Minister shall, after consultation with such bodies and p...
EXPIRING LAWS BILL, 1924.—FOURTH STAGE.
I move: “That the Expiring Laws Bill, 1924, be received for final consideration.” Question put and agreed to.
DAIL IN COMMITTEE. - LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL, 1924—THIRD STAGE (RESUMED.)
The Bill is still in the House if the Deputy likes to continue.
I do not know whether it is material, but the Deputy should know that the Minister's assistant cannot reply. However, in order to facilitate the Deputy, I will move to report progress until to-morrow...
