First Page Previous Page Page of 45 Next Page Last Page

TOMAS O CONAILL: Information on Tomas O'Connell  Zoom on Tomas O'Connell  asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Loughcrew property near Oldcastle, County Meath, formerly in the possession of the Napier family, has been acquired or is about to be acquired by the Land Commission for distribution, and whether, in view of the fact that on Slieve na Caillighe Hill, on this property, there is situated what is reputed to be the oldest and most extensive pagan cemetery in Ireland he will take steps in the event [744] of the purchase and distribution of these lands, to preserve or safeguard the ancient monuments which exist there.

Mr. HOGAN:  The Napier Estate referred to has been acquired by the Land Commission under the Land Act, 1923. The Land Commission are fully aware of the importance of the monuments referred to and are in communication with the Board of Works with a view to vesting the monuments in that Board under Section 14 of the Irish Land Act, 1903, and Section 47 of the Land Act, 1923.

The Dáil went into Committee on Finance.
