Mr. F.H. Crowley: Information on Frederick Hugh Crowley  Zoom on Frederick Hugh Crowley  asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that under existing conditions parcels for Tralee and County Kerry, posted in England and Northern Ireland, are sent to Limerick for Customs examination, and held there for two days, creating a situation that a parcel takes a week in transit from a manufacturing town in England to Kerry; and if steps will be taken to remove this handicap on Kerry traders, and thus give to Kerry people the same facilities enjoyed by Limerick and Cork.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Heffernan): Information on Michael Richard Heffernan  Zoom on Michael Richard Heffernan  Parcels for Co. Kerry originating in Great Britain circulate on Limerick for Customs examination, and those originating in Northern Ireland on Dublin. So far as the Post Office is concerned no delay in transmission occurs. I am communicating with the Revenue Commissioners with a view to seeing whether it is possible to expedite treatment so far as Customs examination is concerned, although I understand that already the great bulk of the parcels are despatched to destination on the afternoon or evening of receipt at the centres and secure delivery next day. I will write to the Deputy on the matter in due course.
