Mr. F. Lynch: Information on Fionán Lynch  Zoom on Fionán Lynch  asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (a) whether he is aware that the graveyard at Killiney, Castlegregory, County Kerry, is so congested that several burials have recently taken place in a field outside the graveyard, that the relatives of these deceased persons have had to pay £5 each for ten square feet to the owner of the field; and (b) whether he will exercise the powers vested in him with a view to compelling the board of health to provide an extension of the graveyard in question.

Minister for Local Government and Public Health (Mr. O Ceallaigh): Information on Seán T. O'Kelly  Zoom on Seán T. O'Kelly  The county medical officer of health reported to the board of health in January last that this burial ground was overcrowded and congested, that there was no available ground for further grave spaces, and that five or six graves had been dug outside the burial ground boundaries. There is no information in my Department as to payments made by relatives of deceased persons to the owner of the field adjoining the burial ground. The board of health are in negotiation with the owner of the field in which the graves mentioned have been dug for the purchase of a quarter acre of land including the site of these graves. The result of these negotiations is awaited.
