Wednesday, 9 November 1938

Dáil Éireann Debate
Vol. 73 No. 3

First Page Previous Page Page of 31 Next Page Last Page

Mr. Norton: Information on William Norton  Zoom on William Norton  I ask that leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make further and better provision for the purchase by the tenants thereof of cottages and plots provided under the Labourers Acts, 1883 to 1937, and for that purpose to amend the Labourers Act, 1936 (No. 34 of 1936) in certain particulars.

Minister for Local Government and Public Health (Mr. O Ceallaigh): Information on Seán T. O'Kelly  Zoom on Seán T. O'Kelly  I oppose.

[392]An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Frank Fahy  Zoom on Frank Fahy  This Bill, therefore, will be put down for Private Deputies' time.

General Mulcahy: Information on Richard James Mulcahy  Zoom on Richard James Mulcahy  When will it be taken?

An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Frank Fahy  Zoom on Frank Fahy  That is a matter on which the Standing Order is not explicit, since what is before the House is really only a motion that leave be granted to introduce a Bill. However, I suggest that the motion might be taken as soon as the motion in Private Deputies' time now under discussion has concluded.

Mr. Norton: Information on William Norton  Zoom on William Norton  If that is agreed generally, in the circumstances, I am prepared to accept that.

An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Frank Fahy  Zoom on Frank Fahy  The Deputy has no option in the matter.

Mr. Norton: Information on William Norton  Zoom on William Norton  I submit I have by allowing this to go to a vote.

An Ceann Comhairle: Information on Frank Fahy  Zoom on Frank Fahy  This is a Private Deputy's motion and therefore if even one Deputy opposes, the motion must go to Private Deputies' time without a division. It will be moved as soon as what is styled the Agricultural Motion has concluded.
