Mr. Davin: Information on William Davin  Zoom on William Davin  asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will furnish a statement giving particulars of the number of persons in each county (1) who were in receipt of old age and blind pensions on August 31st, 1944, or the latest date for which such figures are available; (2) the number of such persons who were in receipt of supplementary allowances on the same date; (3) the number of applications for payment of supplementary allowances, if any, still awaiting decision, and (4) the maximum amount allocated to each county for the purpose of providing such supplementary allowances for year ending March 31st, 1944.

[1535]Minister for Local Government and Public Health (Mr. MacEntee): Information on Seán MacEntee  Zoom on Seán MacEntee  Information as to the number of persons in each county who were in receipt of old age pensions and pensions for the blind on the 31st August, 1944, would have to be obtained from the Department of Finance. The supplementary allowances to which the Deputy refers are awarded to old age pensioners, blind pensioners and their dependent children, and recipients of disablement benefit and their dependent children, who are in necessitous circumstances and resident in areas, to which the Food Voucher Scheme Administered by the Department of Industry and Commerce does not extend and the grant allocated to each county is applicable to all these classes. A tabular statement will be circulated with the [1536] Official Report showing the total number of old age pensioners, blind pensioners and recipients of disablement benefit in rural areas at the time of allocation of the grant in respect of supplementary allowances in February last; the amount of the grant allocated to each county in respect of all these classes and the number of old age and blind peusioners in receipt of supplementary allowances on the last Saturday of July, 1944. There is no information in my Department as to the number of applications for supplementary allowances awaiting decision as the consideration of such application is a matter solely for the local authorities.
