Supplementary Estimates. - Vote 6—Office of the Revenue Commissioners.

Wednesday, 25 February 1948

Dáil Éireann Debate
Vol. 110 No. 2

First Page Previous Page Page of 38 Next Page Last Page

Mr. McGilligan: Information on Patrick McGilligan  Zoom on Patrick McGilligan  I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1948, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners, including certain other services administered by that office.

The greater part of this vote, as set out in the sub-heads, arises from law charges, expenses of prosecutions, fees and rewards. Of course, while that is up, the appropriations-in-aid are also increased on account of the revenue derived by the State as a result of these prosecutions in certain forfeitures and fines. In addition to that, there is a certain increase in travelling expenses on account of the [86] new rates that were sanctioned in April and July of 1947. The moneys required under sub-head G are mainly due to an increase in costs of materials and other matters that occurred in connection with repairs in the Stamping Branch. Finally, there is a matter of compensation. That is a question of motor accidents. It is not, of course, possible to foresee these. There are two. One has been settled, and the other is under consideration. The sum now taken is expected to meet the costs of both.

Vote put and agreed to.
