Mr. Rooney: Information on Eamonn Rooney  Zoom on Eamonn Rooney  asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps he proposes to take to effect a rapid increase in the sheep population of Ireland.

Mr. Dillon: Information on James Matthew Dillon  Zoom on James Matthew Dillon  As the decline in sheep numbers is due, partly at least, to compulsory tillage in counties where sheep rearing is extensively practised, it is probable that the numbers will increase gradually according as compulsory tillage regulations are relaxed, especially if the present prices for sheep and mutton are maintained.
