Mr. T.F. O'Higgins: Information on Michael Joseph O'Higgins  Zoom on Michael Joseph O'Higgins  asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the regulations dealing with the allocation of labourers' cottages to applicants do not provide for the case of a married man who has no house and is obliged to find lodgings for his wife and family in one house and lodgings for himself elsewhere; and, if so, whether he will have these regulations altered to cover such a case.

Mr. Keyes: Information on Michael J. Keyes  Zoom on Michael J. Keyes  Preferences prescribed by the existing regulations governing the letting of labourers' cottages include one for persons with families whose existing accommodation is insufficient. A preference is, therefore, given to the class of case mentioned by the Deputy, but prior preferences are given to persons coming within the special class referred to in the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, and to other persons with families living in condemned houses.
