[1320]Mr. Childers:
asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason for raising the price of firewood at the State forest near Ballymahon, County Longford, by 85 per cent. since October, 1950, to the great disadvantage of persons with limited means who cannot afford £2 15s. 0d. per cord under present circumstances.
Mr. Blowick:
The price of firewood at Ballymahon forest has not been increased by 85 per cent. since last October. For a considerable period prior to October the price per cord was 40/- at the roadside and 30/- in the forest. As the demand was for timber at the roadside, the sale of timber in the forest has been discontinued. The present price is 55/- representing an increase of 37½ per cent., due to increased costs of wages, felling and transport.
