Dáil Éireann Debate
Mr. Coogan: asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the bad and overcrowded living conditions in the married quarters, Renmore Military Barracks, Galway, and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to improve these quarters.
Minister for Defence (General MacEoin): I am aware that the soldiers' married quarters at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa (formerly Renmore Barracks), Galway, have not provided a satisfactory standard of accommodation of the occupants for many years. By way of improvement to the married quarters block, bathrooms with wash-hand basins, baths and a hot water supply are now being provided there.
The relief of overcrowding in certain existing quarters is under consideration in conjunction with a scheme to improve the housing conditions of married soldiers at the larger military centres including Dún Mhaoilíosa.
