Donnchadh Ó Briain:
asked the Taoiseach if he will state the value at August, 1938, prices, of the quantity of goods which could be purchased retail for £1 on the latest date in 1955 for which statistics are available.
Mr. O'Sullivan:
From the official general index numbers it is estimated that £1 at mid-August, 1955, would have purchased retail the same quantum of goods and services as 8/6 at mid-August, 1938.
