Dáil Eireann Debate
Mr. P. Brennan: asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is now in a position to make a statement as to the changes he proposes to make in the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963 (Licensing) Regulations, 1964 which relate to the licensing of petrol pumps and other appliances on public roads.
Mr. Boland: I have considered this matter further and I have come to the conclusion that there is a case for affording some relief to motor traders engaged in kerbside businesses in areas other than the large built-up areas. I have accordingly decided to make amending regulations in the near future which will have the effect of reducing by 50 per cent the licence fees payable in areas other than the County Boroughs in respect of petrol pumps, oil pumps and other appliances and structures for the servicing of vehicles.
Mr. Boland: Appliances used for the provision of free services such as water and air will be made subject to a nominal licence fee only. The opportunity will also be taken to effect some desirable minor changes in the existing regulations.
