Mr. P. O'Donnell:
asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in the interest of Gaeltacht preservation he will order an immediate canvass by the ESB in the Loughnahirk area of the Glencolumbcille district of West Donegal with a view to giving the area electricity in the near future.
Minister for Transport and Power (Mr. Childers):
I am informed by the ESB that Loughnahirk is situated in their Glencolumbcille rural area, which was originally developed under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1954-55. Under their planned post-development programme, they have scheduled the re-canvass of this area for next April. If they were to re-canvass this or any other area out of turn, the planned programme would be disrupted, with resultant increase in costs and less favourable terms of supply for applicants.
