Dr. Thornley:
asked the Minister for Education what range of courses it is proposed to offer in the new regional colleges; and whether these are in line with those recommended by the steering committee on technical education.
Mr. Faulkner:
No rigid pattern of courses has been fixed for the new regional technical colleges; local needs will determine the necessity for specific courses.
It is envisaged, however, that the following courses will be provided:
(a) Senior cycle i.e. post intermediate certificate courses leading to leaving certificate, with a special bias towards commerce, science and technical subjects;
(b) junior and senior trade certificate courses for apprentices;
(c) courses for technicians and higher technician qualifications;
(d) courses for apprentices in the distributive trades; and
This range of courses accords with the recommendations of the steering committee on technical education.
