Sir Anthony Esmonde:
asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the total amount of subsidies to agriculture in the latest statistics available; and if he will give a breakdown of such subsidies.
Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr. J. Gibbons):
With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving details of estimated State expenditure in relation to agriculture for 1970-71 as published last year in the Budget Tables. The figures do not include the extra assistance for agriculture announced in the April, 1970 Budget or the further [1331] assistance announced on 13th October and 1st December, 1970. Taking account of these additional measures total expenditure will, it is estimated, be in the region of £95 million. Final figures will be published at the time of the next Budget.
Following is the statement referred to:
ESTIMATED State expenditure in relation to agriculture.
Note: Figures are net of appropriations-in-aid.
