Mr. P. Belton: Information on Patrick Belton  Zoom on Patrick Belton  asked the Minister for Finance if, prior to any decision to introduce a system of value-added tax, he will ensure that consultations take place with representatives of industry and every other affected sector of the economy.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. Lemass): Information on Noel T. Lemass  Zoom on Noel T. Lemass  A White Paper will be issued in the near future in which the proposals for a value-added tax will be fully set out. As indicated in the foreword to the first White Paper on the Value-Added Tax issued in June, 1968, and in a reply to a question from Deputy Ryan on November 5th, 1968, it is the intention to have full discussions in good time on the proposals with the business and other interests involved.
