Minister for Transport and Power (Mr. B. Lenihan):
This is a small technical amendment to the Road Transport Bill which has been passed in the Seanad. It makes it clear that the international road haulage licences that may be issued under section 8 cannot permit an international haulier to pick up goods within the State. It is solely for goods being brought from outside but they cannot partake in any business here.
An Ceann Comhairle:
Is it agreed that the amendment be ordered now?
Agreed and ordered accordingly.
The Dáil went into Committee to consider an amendment from the Seanad.
Mr. B. Lenihan:
I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:
In page 6, subsection (1) lines 5 to 9 deleted, and the following new paragraph substituted:
“(b) Nothing in this section shall be construed as permitting a person to use a vehicle, in respect of which a restricted road freight licence has been granted, for the purpose of the delivery in the [1964] State of goods which have been loaded on to that vehicle in the State.”
Amendment reported and agreed to.
Ordered: that Seanad Éireann be notified accordingly.
