60.

Mr. Bruton: Information on John Bruton  Zoom on John Bruton  asked the Minister for Lands if he will extend the group farm experiments being sponsored by the Land Commission to include local farmers in Counties Meath and Kildare.

Mr. S. Flanagan: Information on Seán Flanagan  Zoom on Seán Flanagan  As the Deputy is aware, the Land Commission are sponsoring an experiment in combined farming in County Meath—the participants being four migrants from Kerry. If a further project in Meath or Kildare should be found feasible, sympathetic consideration will be given to the question of seeking the participation of farmers from within these counties.

Mr. Bruton: Information on John Bruton  Zoom on John Bruton  What considerations might lead the Minister to decide whether a further project of this nature would be feasible? What steps has he taken to investigate the possibility of instituting a further experiment in Meath or Kildare?

Mr. S. Flanagan: Information on Seán Flanagan  Zoom on Seán Flanagan  That is a very wide question.

Mr. Bruton: Information on John Bruton  Zoom on John Bruton  It arises directly from the original question. Would the Minister be in a position to answer that?

Mr. S. Flanagan: Information on Seán Flanagan  Zoom on Seán Flanagan  I do not think so. It is too complicated. “If a further project in Meath or Kildare should be found feasible” is what I said in my reply.

Mr. Bruton: Information on John Bruton  Zoom on John Bruton  Is it likely to be found feasible?

Mr. S. Flanagan: Information on Seán Flanagan  Zoom on Seán Flanagan  Fairly likely.
