Mr. O.J. Flanagan:
asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries [1213] the present position regarding the EEC directive on New York-dressed poultry which has such serious implications for the Christmas turkey trade and especially for smaller producers.
Mr. Clinton:
Negotiations are at present in progress at which this country and the UK are pressing for amendment of the EEC poultry health directive prohibiting trade in New York dressed poultry to enable us to continue trade in this form after 1976 when the directive comes into effect on the home market. I am not in a position to say when a decision on this matter will be made but it should be before the end of the year.
