40.

Mr. Crinion: Information on Brendan Crinion  Zoom on Brendan Crinion  asked the Minister for Education if he will have an Irish secondary school erected to cater for the Gaeltacht areas of Rath Cairn and Gibbstown, County Meath as local people feel that children from these areas are at a disadvantage as they have to attend English-speaking schools in Athboy or Trim for their second-level education.

Mr. Bruton: Information on John Bruton  Zoom on John Bruton  Because of the wide range of teaching skills and teaching facilities which should be provided for pupils in a secondary school it would not be feasible to provide a separate secondary school for the small number of pupils in the Rath Cairn and Gibbstown areas. Pupils from the areas who wish to receive their secondary education in an all-Irish boarding school would be eligible for grants from the Department.
