Mr. O. J. Flanagan:
asked the Minister for Education if he proposes to include in school programmes lessons on the use and abuse of drugs, including alcohol and cigarettes; and if he will take immediate steps in relation to this matter, as requested by the recent congress of IVEA.
Minister for Education (Mr. Wilson):
: I have noted the concern expressed at the recent Congress of the Irish Vocational Education Association about the use and abuse of drugs, including alcohol and cigarettes, by teenagers. This matter, I understand, is under active consideration by the Health Education Bureau of the Department of Health, upon which my Department are represented, and my Department will give all possible co-operation in furthering the bureau's activities in so far as they are directed towards the schools.
