Dr. O'Connell: Information on John F. O'Connell  Zoom on John F. O'Connell  asked the Minister for Health the percentage of total health expenditure devoted to (a) administration (b) hospitals (c) the general medical scheme (d) community care services and (e) health allowances.

Minister for Health (Dr. Woods): Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods  : The information requested is set out in the following tabular statement:

Purpose of expenditure Estimated expenditure as a percentage of estimated gross non-capital expenditure 1980
(a) Central administration (Department of Health and health boards) 2.5%
(b) Hospitals (not including residential homes for mentally handicapped) 69.2%
(c) The General Medical Services Scheme 7.7%
(d) Community care services which include the general medical services scheme and health allowances 19.8%
(e) Health allowances 4.3%
