Dáil Eireann Debate
Mr. Fitzpatrick: (Cavan-Monaghan): I should like to ask the Tánaiste if the Government would agree to make time available for a debate on the common fisheries policy in view of the fact that, at the end of this year, the derogation in favour of Irish fishermen will come to an end. Unless there is a common fisheries policy, fishing will be permitted right into our shores. This is a very serious matter for our fishermen.
Mr. Moynihan: Would the Minister for the Environment state when it is proposed to bring in the necessary legislation to extend planning permission, which died on 31 October 1981, as promised already by the former Minister for the Environment, Deputy Barry. I should like to ask the Minister to indicate, because of the urgency of this matter, if he will have the necessary legislation completed before the adjournment of the Dáil for the summer recess.
Mr. Quinn: Could the Tánaiste give some indication as to when the committee in relation to the EEC and semi-State bodies can be established. All that is required is to put a motion on the Order Paper. I am sure all parties will agree to it. As the House is aware, these committees have not been in operation for over a year and there are many matters to be discussed.
Dr. FitzGerald: There have been discussions between the Leaders of the parties on this and we are awaiting a response from the Taoiseach on one or two outstanding matters. I would ask the Tánaiste to urge the Taoiseach to come to a conclusion on these matters.
Mr. Harte: I want your guidance as to how I can raise it on the Adjournment when other people have also asked to raise matters on the Adjournment. People have been promised money but they have not been given any——
Mr. Raphael Burke: It will be brought in as soon as possible, but there was a delay because of the amendment which was introduced by the Seanad which had to be sent back to the Dáil. Work is well under way in preparation of the tribunal and it will be completed as soon as possible.
