Dáil Eireann Debate
Mr. Taylor: asked the Minister for Education the progress made in providing a primary school to serve the Deansrath and Melrose areas of Clondalkin, County Dublin; when such a school will be opened; and its exact location.
Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): Planning is in progress for the provision of a new national school for Deansrath, County Dublin. The school will be located off Nangor Road. The question of the invitation of tenders will be considered when contract documents have been completed, when services to the site have been provided and when title to the site has been established or alternatively permission to enter the site for building purposes has been given. It is not possible to state when building work may commence.
Mr. Taylor: asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the plans to provide a second level school to serve the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin, County Dublin; the site that has been reserved or provided for this purpose; and when this school is likely to open.
Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): It is proposed to provide a new second-level school in the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin, County Dublin. Negotiations are currently taking place with a view to the purchase of a suitable site. At this stage of planning, I am not in a position to say when the new school will be ready for occupation.
Mr. Mac Giolla: asked the Minister for Education the steps that have been taken to ensure that temporary accommodation will be made available on the site for a second-level school in Neilstown, Clondalkin, County Dublin, in view of the fact that a considerable number of primary school sixth classes in the area will have been completed by the summer of 1983.
Minister for Education (Mrs. Hussey): The permanent second-level school for Neilstown, Clondalkin is expected to be opened in September of next year. I am taking every step possible to ensure this deadline is kept.
