Mr. E. O'Keeffe:
asked the Minister for Labour when a redundancy payment will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.
Minister for Labour (Mr. Quinn):
No application has been received in my Department for payment of a redundancy lump sum to the person concerned.
From inquiries made by my Department it is understood that he has not been made redundant but is on a three-day week. The Redundancy Payments Acts contain special provisions to enable a worker who has been on short-time for a protracted period to claim a redundancy lump sum payment from his employer, provided that the worker satisfies general conditions for eligibility under the Acts. I will arrange to write to the Deputy explaining the relevant provisions and advising how the person concerned can [524] claim redundancy lump sum from his employer if he so wishes.
