Mr. Coughlan: asked the Minister for the Environment whether a house improvement grant can be paid in respect of a house for which an essential repair grant has also been approved, provided that the house improvement grant is in respect of the provision of bathroom, water and sewerage facilities which is not included in the essential repair scheme.
Minister for the Environment (Mr. Kavanagh):
Where a grant has been approved under the essential repair scheme, the only grant allowable under my Department's house improvement grants scheme is in respect of the provision of water and sewerage facilities, since it is a statutory condition of the payment of the other categories of improvement grants, including grants in respect of the provision of bathrooms, that all works necessary for the conservation of the house be satisfactorily carried out.
