604.

Mr. B. Ahern: Information on Bertie Ahern  Zoom on Bertie Ahern  asked the Minister for Communications if he will consider [2265] amending the pension entitlements of the former members of the Defence Forces who served in the Army during the Emergency and are now employed within CIE or are pensioners of CIE as presently for operative grades of CIE, service with the Defence Forces during the period 1939-45 does not alter a member's entitlement; and if he will review this scheme and make the necessary amendments.

605.

Mr. B. Ahern: Information on Bertie Ahern  Zoom on Bertie Ahern  asked the Minister for Communications if he will amend the present entitlements of those members of the Defence Forces who served during 1939-45 and are now on the staff or are pensioners of CIE as presently their Army service is not taken into account and alters their pension entitlements.

Minister for Communications (Mr. J. Mitchell): Information on Jim Mitchell  Zoom on Jim Mitchell  I propose to take Questions Nos. 604 and 605 together.

I am taking it that the Deputy's questions relate only to operative grades of CIE. The CIE wages grades pensions schemes are the schemes which apply to these grades. As these schemes are not service related reckonability of Army Emergency Service would not normally affect members' pension entitlements.
