Mr. Molloy:
asked the Minister for Health if the Western Health Board will have effected a full opening of the extension to the maternity unit at Galway Regional Hospital by 1 June 1985 as requested by him in his letter to the chief executive dated 14 May 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Health (Mr. B. Desmond):
The chief executive officer of the Western Health Board has informed me that this matter will be considered by the board at its next meeting on 4 June 1985 at which he will be recommending acceptance of the additional allocations advised in the Department's letter dated [128] 14 May 1985. In the meantime consultations are taking place with staff and trade union interests and I am confident that the board will be in a position to effect a full opening of the maternity unit in the very near future.
