88.

Mr. Gregory-Independent: Information on Tony Gregory  Zoom on Tony Gregory  asked the Minister for Labour the arrangements which will be made to provide full redundancy payments to workers of Irish Shipping.

Minister for Labour (Mr. Quinn): Information on Ruairí Quinn  Zoom on Ruairí Quinn  Payements of statutory redundancy lump sums and of other entitlements due to the former employees of Irish Shipping Limited under the Protection of Employees (Employers' Insolvency) Act, 1984, are being met from the redundancy and employers' insolvency fund. To date, 193 employees have been paid their statutory redundancy lump sums [731] and 92 employees have been paid their outstanding entitlements in respect of wages, holiday pay and minimum notice awards by the Employment Appeals Tribunal.

There are no applications for payment in hands in my Department at present, but I understand that a number of cases have been referred to the Employment Appeals Tribunal for determination of individual entitlements. I have arranged that any further applications from former Irish Shipping employees will be dealt with by my Department with the minimum of delay.
