Mr. Cluskey:
asked the Minister for [624] Health if he will state Government policy in relation to the provision for young homeless people; if he accepts that it is health board responsibility to provide “short-stay accommodation for homeless young people” as in paragraph 6.1.2 of National Youth Policy.
Mr. Cluskey:
asked the Minister for Health if it is Government policy that local authorities should provide for the care and accommodation needs of young people who are incapable of independent living; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Health (Mr. B. Desmond):
I propose to take Questions Nos. 99 and 100 together.
As indicated in the National Youth Policy, In Partnership With Youth, the Government are committed to dealing specifically and urgently with the problem of homelessness amongst young people, male and female. I am in consultation with my colleague, the Minister for the Environment, as to the practical measures to be taken to achieve this.
