Mr. Cullen: Information on Martin Cullen  Zoom on Martin Cullen  asked the Minister for Labour regarding the review of the [709] Unfair Dismissals Act, 1977, (a) if it has taken place and already been published or (b) if it is yet to be undertaken or published in booklet form as he has indicated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Labour (Mr. B. Ahern): Information on Bertie Ahern  Zoom on Bertie Ahern  I have examined the review of the Unfair Dismissals Act, 1977 undertaken by my Department.

It is my intention that the issues arising in this and in a number of other areas should form the basis for a discussion document which I propose to have published in September next.

The discussion document will explore a variety of options for amendment of existing legislation. I will be seeking the views of all interested parties on the proposals. Following examination of the views received I will consider what legislative amendments are necessary.
