Mr. McCartan: Information on Patrick McCartan  Zoom on Patrick McCartan  asked the Minister for Communications the applications which remain outstanding from RTE for extensions in broadcasting hours for its various stations and services; when decisions will be made on these applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Communications (Mr. R. Burke): Information on Ray Burke  Zoom on Ray Burke  All current applications from RTE for increased hours of broadcasting have been approved. As I announced this morning the extensions comprise: an extra two hours a day to enable the RTE 2 television service to commence broadcasting at 3 p.m. in the afternoons; an extra 1,092 hours per annum to enable the Raidio na Gaeltachta service to broadcast continuously throughout the day; an extra hour a day to extend the close-down time for Radio 1 to 1 a.m.; an extra four hours a day for the special Millennium Radio service; an extra 575 hours per annum to extend the FM3 service.
