Mr. McCartan:
asked the Minister for Communications the applications which remain outstanding from RTE for extensions in broadcasting hours for its various stations and services; when decisions will be made on these applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Communications (Mr. R. Burke):
All current applications from RTE for increased hours of broadcasting have been approved. As I announced this morning the extensions comprise: an extra two hours a day to enable the RTE 2 television service to commence broadcasting at 3 p.m. in the afternoons; an extra 1,092 hours per annum to enable the Raidio na Gaeltachta service to broadcast continuously throughout the day; an extra hour a day to extend the close-down time for Radio 1 to 1 a.m.; an extra four hours a day for the special Millennium Radio service; an extra 575 hours per annum to extend the FM3 service.
