Mr. Gregory:
asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is concerned at the alleged ill-treatment of a person (details supplied) following a recent visit to hospital and her return to a British prison within hours of an operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Lenihan):
I am aware of the concern expressed by Derry City Council about Ms. Anderson's case, following the recent visit of a delegation from the council to see her in Durham Prison. I understand that a copy of the council's report is being forwarded to me. In the meantime, on my instructions, our Embassy in London is arranging to visit Ms. Anderson [1968] in prison. Following that visit, and receipt of the Derry City Council report, I will consider the matter further.
