213.

Mr. Moynihan: Information on Michael Moynihan  Zoom on Michael Moynihan  asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport, in view of the conclusion of a deal by Swansea-Cork ferries to charter a ferry for the 1990 tourist season, if he will give immediate approval for the grant aid sought by the company, in order that marketing and promotion of the ferry can proceed with.

Minister for Tourism and Transport (Mr. S. Brennan): Information on Seamus Brennan  Zoom on Seamus Brennan  I have recently received an application from Swansea-Cork Ferries for Exchequer Financial assistance for the operation of a ferry service between Cork and Swansea during 1990.

In view of the significant level of Exchequer support which has been sought, I have commissioned an independent consultancy study into all aspects of the proposal from Swansea-Cork Ferries. The outcome of the study will be available to me by about the middle of this month.
