Mr. Deasy:
asked the Minister for Education if she will allocate funds from the proceeds of the national lottery to [871] St. Joseph's School for Handicapped Children at Parnell Street, Waterford, to replace existing toilet facilities which constitute a health hazard and may lead to closure of the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Education (Mrs. O'Rourke):
My Department have sanctioned a grant under the Rules for National Schools towards the cost of major improvements to the toilets at St. Joseph's Special School, Parnell Street, Waterford. In July 1989 the school authorities were authorised to accept a tender for works. I understand building operations commenced in later October. My Department are precluded from allocating funds from the national lottery in the case of national schools.
