Mr. Allen:
asked the Minister for [494] Health if he will make a statement on a recent report (details supplied) which claimed that doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, County Tipperary have found that there is a seven hour delay on average before patients are admitted to hospital following a heart attack; whether a similar situation exists throughout the country; and the proposals he has to improve the situation.
Minister for Health (Dr. O'Hanlon):
This report calls for greater public education so that patients will seek medical attention at an earlier stage after the onset of pain. Information concerning the length of time between onset of a coronary infarction and admission to hospital is not readily available concerning other areas of the country. I agree that there is a need for greater public education concerning this issue.
