Minister for Finance
the total amount of money spent by all Government Departments in the years 1987, 1988 and 1989 on renting office space or other accommodation from the private sector.
Minister for Finance (Mr. A. Reynolds):
The cost of renting accommodation in Ireland for Government Departments is met from the Vote for Public Works and Buildings. Expenditure on this service in 1989 amounted to £16,520,000 and expenditure that year by the Department of Foreign Affairs on renting overseas accommodation totalled £2,280,000.
Prior to 1989, the cost of renting accommodation in Ireland and overseas was borne by the Office of Public Works Vote and the expenditure figures were: 1987, £18,400,000; and 1988, £18,180,000.
