Mr. Bell
asked the
Minister for Labour
if, in view of the fact that a company (details supplied) is no longer operating in Ireland and as a result of the Employment Appeals Tribunal decision of 1 June 1990, which granted minimum notice to the substantial majority of the workforce, payment will be made from the Employers Insolvency Fund in accordance with the decision of the tribunal; when these payments will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Labour (Mr. B. Ahern):
I understand that the solicitors acting for the company concerned have lodged an appeal to the High Court on a point of law against the Employment Appeals Tribunal decision of 1 June 1990. In the circumstances, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the case at this time.
