Mr. J. O'Keeffe
asked the
Minister for Foreign Affairs
whether he will ensure that Statutory Instruments Nos. 323 of 1976 and 76 of 1969 are amended to provide specifically for the extradition of anybody charged with serious crimes in Germany and Holland.
[706]Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Collins):
Statutory Instruments Nos. 323 of 1976 and 76 of 1969 have been repealed. The Government Orders governing extradition which are currently in force in relation to the Federal Republic of Germany and the Netherlands are contained in Statutory Instrument No. 9 of 1989 and Statutory Instrument No. 115 of 1989. The first mentioned enables the state to give effect, in relation to those two countries, to its obligations under the European Convention on Extradition. The latter enables the implementation of the provisions relating to serious crimes contained in the European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism. There are no plans to amend either Statutory Instrument.
