  111.  Mr. G. Mitchell  Information on Gay Mitchell  Zoom on Gay Mitchell   asked the Minister for Social Welfare  Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods   if PRSI which was deducted from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 while he was on a FÁS course will be refunded immediately as the person concerned is a medical card holder.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods): Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods  I understand from FÁS that the person concerned commenced a course on 1 May 1989. He completed the course on 27 April 1990. According to the Department's records, PRSI contributions were paid for the duration of the course at Class J3. This is the class appropriate to a medical card holder, and the contributions are payable entirely by the employer. There is, accordingly no refund of contributions due by my Department. I understand that the person concerned became the holder of a medical card on 20 September 1989. He would accordingly have been liable for the employee's share of the PRSI contribution prior to that date.
