  59.  Mr. Allen  Information on Bernard Allen  Zoom on Bernard Allen   asked the Minister for Finance  Information on Albert Reynolds  Zoom on Albert Reynolds   the returns from the Cork area for VAT for each year from 1987 to 1990.

Minister for Finance (Mr. A. Reynolds): Information on Albert Reynolds  Zoom on Albert Reynolds  Precise statistics on the lines requested by the Deputy are not available. However, the overall net VAT receipt for the years in question was as follows:

Year £m
1987 1,582
1988 1,814
1989 1,935
1990 1,978

On the basis of sample 1990 figures, it is estimated that the Cork district accounted for about 9 per cent of the gross internal VAT. If this percentage is applied to the above figures, the result may be taken as a broad indicator of the portion of total VAT yield which relates to the Cork area.
