Minister for Justice (Mr. Burke): Information on Ray Burke  Zoom on Ray Burke  I have already informed the Deputy that it is my intention to have legislation to place the scheme of civil legal aid on a statutory basis ready this year.

The new law centres which were recently announced for Letterkenny, Dundalk and Castlebar will be one-solicitor centres. Therefore, the number of new solicitors employed by the Legal Aid Board will be three. With these and other recent developments the board's overall authorised solicitor strength now stands at 39, their highest ever level.
