Minister for Agriculture and Food
if he will outline, (a) the number of beef premium applications for the 1991 scheme processed in Cork up to 31 January 1992, (b) the number of applications approved for payment and (c) the number of applications which were rejected by the computer in Dublin.
Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh):
The number of 1991 special beef premium applications processed in Cork up to 31 January 1992 was 8,450. The number approved for payment and actually paid is 4,406 and the number rejected by the computer is 3,924. These are being re-examined with a view to determining the number of cases in which grants can be paid.

This applicant has already been paid his grants under the 1991 cattle and equines headage and suckler cow premium schemes. His application under the 1991 special beef premium scheme is being processed at present and if found in order payment will be made shortly. Files were passed from the Ennis office on 19 December 1991 in regard to the cattle and equines headage and suckler cow premium and on 6 January 1992 in respect of the special beef premium scheme.

The files [1926] were passed from the Ennis office on 11 December 1991, 10 and 24 January 1992, respectively.

This person lodged an application for the special beef premium scheme in the December 1991 application period. Following expiry of the minimum [1927] two months retention period, field and office checks will be carried out on applications lodged in this period and payments made as soon as possible after these checks are completed.

when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be paid sheep headage and ewe premium grants.

The two persons named are husband and wife and each has a separate farm and herd number. The Deparment, however, are satisfied that both flocks are being managed as a single unit and arrangements are being made to amalgamate both herd numbers for grant purposes. The first and second instalments of the 1991 ewe premium have been paid to the husband in respect of his application and the corresponding instalments will be paid to the wife in respect of her application within the next three weeks. Only one sheep headage grant is payable in respect of the combined flock and the 1991 grant has already been paid to the husband.

This applicant's grants under the 1991 beef premium scheme and suckler [1928] cow pemium scheme for small scale milk procedures are being processed for payment at present and if found in order grants of £667.85 in respect of the beef premium scheme and £685.40 in respect of the suckler cow scheme will issue to him shortly. He has already been paid a grant of £1,550 under the 1991 beef cow and equines headage scheme.
