Dáil Éireann Debate
15. Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in the commencement of an extension to Rathcoffey national school in County Kildare, which was approved by his Department eight years ago, and involves the building of two classrooms and the conversion of the existing smallest room to a library/medical and staff room with stores, in view of the fact that extra space is urgently required in the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
115. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline his plans for improving the facilities at Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare; if he will give details of the proposed timescale for the works and the remaining development stages yet to be processed prior to implementation of the plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
It is proposed to provide a permanent extension at Rathcoffey National School, County Kildare which will contain two standard classrooms. One of the classrooms in the existing building will be adapted so as to provide a staffroom and a library/medical room and stores. It was necessary to modify an earlier scheme because of its cost and the financial constraints.
The project is at sketch plan stage and this will be completed at the earliest possible date to enable the school authorities to apply for planning permission. When Final Planning Permission has been received, the preparation of tender documents will be put in hands. Because there are a number of factors outside the control of my Department in this whole process, it is not possible to say, at this point, when tenders will be invited or a contract placed.
