An Ceann Comhairle:
Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy Deasy. I now call on Deputy Deasy to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.
Mr. Deasy:
I hereby request the Adjournment of the Dáil in accordance with Standing Order 30 so that this House can discuss the urgent and important matter of reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
An Ceann Comhairle:
Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing [2] Order 30, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
Mr. Deasy:
Can you tell me, a Cheann Comhairle, how I can have the matter raised and debated?
An Ceann Comhairle:
Yes, indeed, Deputy. The matter to which you refer is ongoing and Deputy Deasy or, indeed, any other Deputy, has ample opportunity to raise it under ordinary notice or by way of questions. I understand that questions appertaining to agriculture will be heard in this House next week.
Mr. Deasy:
It is a matter of great urgency. May I ask the Taoiseach once again if we could have a debate on this item tomorrow?
[3]An Ceann Comhairle:
It does not arise now, Deputy Deasy. We are proceeding to the Order of Business.
Mr. Deasy:
The Whips have already discussed the matter but we have not got any agreement.
An Ceann Comhairle:
I now call on the Taoiseach to outline the Order of Business for this day.
Mr. Farrelly:
It may be ongoing but the farmers are going out of business.
