  75.  Mr. Durkan  Information on Bernard Durkan  Zoom on Bernard Durkan   asked the Minister for Energy  Information on Robert Molloy  Zoom on Robert Molloy   if it is proposed to extend the national gas pipe line from the Intel site, Leixlip, to the university town of Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Energy (Mr. Molloy): Information on Robert Molloy  Zoom on Robert Molloy  Bord Gáis Éireann (BGE) has a statutory obligation to develop and maintain a system for the supply of natural gas on a commercial basis and any proposals for the extension of the gas grid are assessed by the board in the light of that obligation.

I am advised by the board that it has no plans at present to extend a supply of gas to Maynooth, but that such an extension may be considered in the future, if and when adequate gas demand can be identified to justify the capital cost involved.
