An Ceann Comhairle:
Before proceeding to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30 in the name of Deputy John Bruton. I now call on Deputy Bruton to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.
Mr. J. Bruton:
I seek your permission for the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to raise the urgent and important matter of providing financial assistance to the Olympic Council of Ireland to enable them to fund the final preparation of athletes in advance of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and to organise adequate funding for the Olympic Games in future years. Dáil Éireann will note that the national lottery was established to fund activities of this kind.
An Ceann Comhairle:
Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, accordingly, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
Mr. Farrelly:
Why not wait until the Olympic Games are over?
