362.
Mr. Stagg
asked the
Minister for Labour
if he will change the health and safety regulation so that an inspector on inspection in a factory or premises would be obliged to (1) clearly identify himself by a name tag and (2) inform the safety official at the premises before any inspection takes place; and if he will alter the regulations to require the inspector to provide a copy of his report/recommendations at the premises to the safety officer of that premises.
Minister for Labour (Mr. Cowen):
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989 responsibility for enforcement and inspection activities relating to occupational safety and health is a function of the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health. [562] Accordingly, the issues raised by the Deputy fall within the authority's remit.
I propose to send a copy of the question to the authority, request them to consider the issues raised and to provide the Deputy with a reply.
