  93.  Mr. Callely  Information on Ivor Callely  Zoom on Ivor Callely   asked the Minister for Social Welfare  Information on Charlie McCreevy  Zoom on Charlie McCreevy   the number of people in receipt of retirement/old age pensions; the method which is being adopted to make provisions for providing pensions in the coming decades for the ageing population; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Social Welfare (Mr. McCreevy): Information on Charlie McCreevy  Zoom on Charlie McCreevy  At the end of September 1992 the following were the numbers in receipt of Retirement/Old Age Pensions.

Old Age Contributory Pension 72,781
Old Age Non-Contributory Pension 113,825
Retirement Pension 54,643

The National Pensions Board which was established in 1986 is currently working on its final report concerning the development of a new national pensions system.

The Board's report will deal with all aspects of pension provision, including the question of financial provision for a growing number of recipients.

I expect to receive the report by the end of November. The matter will be considered further in the light of the report.
